A Sticky Situation

For this assignment, I enlisted the help of some of my former classmates, as well as one of my current classments of the new program I found myself in. (The girl and tall guy the former, the dude in shades the latter). In spite of the comedic play I wished to capture in this film, that collision between two worlds ended up bleeding through the most.

Based on the western standoff present in Nobuhiko Obayashi's Complexe. Interestingly enough, a similar scene was to be repeated again in his later films Emotion and Confession. A motif perhaps?

Fun fact: This was one of my first experiments with pixilation within film! Stop motion within cinema saw a lot of use during the silent era, but steadily fell off as VFX technology improved. A shame really, I find myself rather fond of stop motion still.
